Find your passion; don’t ask government for money

ODDS AND ENDS

We will never see the Guptas in South Africa, facing the music. They are as slippery as an eel. They are probably already in India and not in the United Arab Emirates.

As residents of Wentworth, we have to do something about the shootings. This can’t go on! Our children are not safe! We cannot live like this all because of drugs. The police are not doing their job in Wentworth. The current police officers must be removed and replaced. None of the drug lords get arrested, if they do, they are out the very next day selling their stuff. Please, we need help. | ANGRY CITIZEN

From someone who scraped through her matric, never went to university, but found my passion in life at 28, here’s a word of advice. Why do you put so much pressure on the government to pay for varsity degrees, when with our low economy there is very little chance of getting jobs after 3 or 4 years of studying? Why not look for your passion? And do a course to support the jobs which are in demand? Electricians, plumbers, painters/ builders/tradesmen, etc. I am still working at 76. I love what I do, and help support my family.

Doesn’t it make more sense? | JULIE

Mr Zwelinzima Vavi, you have a nerve to say those things about the president. Have you forgotten what you did to us in the factories? You sold us to the Chinese – that’s why we don’t have work in South Africa!

Her Majesty, The Queen of England, is a consummate actress. Don’t mess with the Grand Old Lady. She has seen and done it all. She had her grandmother, Queen Mary, after whom my home street is named, teaching and training her for her important work. Including her father, the King of England. So, Nicola Sturgeon, a sabre rattling, silly old sow; and what does her Majesty do? Sends the future king of England and his amazing wife, on a most successful tour of Scotland. Take a bow, your Majesty. Neat move. Linda Korte

GOVERNMENT

What is Gwede Mantashe’s experience in energy apart from being a politician? | JOE SOAP

Cyril Ramaphosa addressed the G7 summit and requested billions in financial aid to stabilise our economy, due to the impact of Covid-19. Did his comrades send him there, because their funds are running low? There would be no reason to beg now if Cyril opened his mouth during the Zuma years. There would be no reason to beg now if he dealt with corruption, which is still happening, during his presidency.

ETHEKWINI MUNICIPALITY

The ethekwini Municipality’s electricity billing is out of control. Customers need to do their own monthly electricity and water meter readings and pay accordingly. They have the municipality charges per kw/kl on their previous bills and must pay for the actual usage, not the estimated usage. And, of course, keep records using all means, cellphones etc. Let’s see their reaction for failing to do their job. Give to Caesar what is due to Caesar!

Does anyone know if our mayor has issued a special permit for the conmen sangomas robbing people in Grey and Victoria streets? Because you see metro police officers walk right past them and confiscate goods from street traders.
