Afghan president reveals security plan

Xinhua

KABUL: Afghan President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani has revealed a six-month security plan to change the security situation in the conflict-battered country.

“We have a six-month security plan to change the situation on the battle ground and to stabilise the security situation. The security forces are capable enough to stabilize the security situation,” Ghani told a joint session of the parliament.

The president, however, did not give details about the plan. He described the security situation as “critical” while calling on lawmakers to support security forces.

After the president’s speech, the joint session of the parliament issued a statement, supporting the president’s suggestions and urging the Taliban to give up fighting. |
