Johnny Depp victory in Amber Heard legal battle

JOHNNY Depp, 58, has been granted a motion to establish whether or not his ex-wife Amber Heard, 35, did donate her $7 million (R101m) divorce settlement to charity.

A New York judge ruled the American Civil Liberties Union (Aclu) must provide documentation that confirms whether or not the Aquaman actress gave the non-profit a donation from the $7m she received in her divorce settlement from the Rum Diary star, as well as the Children’s Hospital Los Angeles.

Depp had taken action against The Sun newspaper after it branded him a wife-beater who had assaulted then-spouse Heard, but a judge ruled in favour of the British newspaper last November, and his defamation accusation was thrown out.

In March, the former Pirates of the Caribbean star was denied the chance to appeal against his failed libel case.

Depp has repeatedly denied he attacked his ex-wife.

The actor is also involved in a libel dispute over a 2018 Washington Post opinion piece written by Amber, mentioning domestic abuse, although she didn’t mention Depp by name.

It is due to be heard next year.
