SA has long passed the point of collapse

TRAWLING through the media a few days ago, I came across an utterance supposedly made by Thabo Mbeki while on the municipal election campaign trail. In the article Mbeki is quoted as saying that without the ANC the country “would collapse”.

Perhaps I have missed something because to even the casual observer it is apparent that the country has long passed the point of collapse – with over R1.3 trillion stolen, misappropriated, call it what you may, from the fiscus; billions stolen during the Bosasa years at the hands of Gavin Watson; the crash of SAA and billions lost under ANC apparatchik Dudu Myeni; the arms deal which cost the country billions under the watch of Jacob Zuma; billions stolen via crooked PPE tenders; close to a hundred ANC run municipalities either bankrupt or dysfunctional … the list goes on and on and on.

All this happened under the auspices and watchful eye of the ANC government.

The so-called “collapse” of the country that Mr Mbeki speaks of started a long time ago at the hands of the very party that he champions.

The truth is that the ANC is nothing more than a private club, a cabal of leaders who place the importance of the party above the importance of the country .

ANC Uber Alles should appear on the party’s campaign posters. The jostle for positions as mayors and other positions in local government, is just a means of climbing aboard the ANC gravy train, nothing more .

Potholes, collapsing infrastructure, pit toilets, lack of service delivery and unemployment will continue after the elections despite promises to the contrary. The more things change the more they stay the same .

Voters need to approach the voting booth on Monday, November 1, with eyes wide open and cotton wool in their ears .
